[Mind's Eye] Re: TRUST

I like the approach; raises some further questions. What is the basis
of "trust given freely"? How does one "earn" trust? Is there an
objective standard?

You also raise a good point about the distinction between Trust
between individuals, and Trust between the individual and
organisations; there's a huge area of interest here. Are they the same
concepts, with the same rights and obligations?

Generally speaking, sadly i think you're right about the devaluation
of Trust across human relations. Leads to a key question about how we
articulate and set expectations regarding Trust. When i say "I trust
you", what exactly do i mean? Is it directed? Is it emotional? Is it
"probabilistic"? Or is it a combination of all three?

I'd never have guessed you were a "cynic"...;) So tell me, how does
"cynical libertarianism" work?

I did quite well with the options today, black tuesday #2. Last weekend I
had a heart to heart with myself and decided that I had too much loss
exposure with my March options. I added up the worse case losses and didn't
like what I saw. I wrote a strategy of which options possibly could be in
the money, which had no chance and which were mildly in the money but whose
fortune could change. Luck was with me on Monday since it was an UP day. I
lightened up about 33% on my options selling both moderate losers and
gainers for a realized gain/loss of about 0.

I feared further correction so I bought 5 put contracts on the S&P expiring
in 4 days for about $2500 total. That saved my bacon today. I closed out
that position with a $6000 gain and, of course, with the drop today, all of
my March calls will expire worthless. Many of the expensive calls were
spreads, so when those expire, I keep the premium.

I set up another S&P put spread for April expiration anticipating that the
S&P could get to 1360 before this correction is over with. Bought 10 ATM
(April 1380) puts at a total of $23000 and shorted 10 OTM (April 1370) puts
for a premium of $19,000. Total cash outlay was $4000. Max upside
potential is $10,000. My long puts have alread gone into the money about
$2.

Vito

The first and most important thing to do is to read this email if you
are serious about making money. I found this article on a bulletin
board and decided to try it. A little while back, I was browsing
through a message board, and came across an article similar to this
that said you could make thousands of dollars within weeks with only
an initial investment of $6.00! So I thought, Yeah right, this must be
a scam, but like most of us, I was curious, so I kept reading

. Anyway, it said that you send $1.00 to each of the 6 names and
address stated in the article. You then place your own name and
address in the bottom of the list at #6, and post the article in at
least 200 newsgroups.(There are thousands) No catch, that was it. So
after thinking it over, and talking to a few people first, I thought
about trying it. I figured: what have I got to lose except 6 stamps
and $6.00,right? Then I invested the measly $6.00.

I began reading many writing how they started getting money in the
mail! Shocking!! and how they figured it would end soon, but the money
just kept coming in. In their first week, they made about $25.00. By
the end of the second week they had made a total of over $1,000.00! In
the third week over $10,000.00 and it's still growing.

By their fourth week they have made a total of just over $42,000.00
and it's still coming in rapidly. It sounds like it's certainly worth
$6.00, and 6 stamps, you can spent more than that on the lottery!! I
figured why not try this, the lost is too little not to. Let me tell
you how this works and most importantly, why it works....Also, make
sure you print a copy of this article NOW, so you can get the
information off of it as you need it.

It is essential that you follow the directions exactly, to start
making more money than you thought possible by doing something so
easy! Suggestion: Read this entire message carefully! (print it out or
download it.) Follow the simple directions and watch the money come
in! It's easy. It's legal. And, your investment is only $6.00 (Plus
postage) IMPORTANT: This is not a rip-off; it is not indecent; it is
not illegal; and it is virtually no risk - it really works!!!!

If all of the following instructions are adhered to, you will receive
extraordinary dividends. PLEASE NOTE: Please follow these directions
EXACTLY, and $50,000 or more can be yours in 20 to 60 days. This
program remains successful because of the honesty and integrity of the
participants.

Please continue its success by carefully adhering to the
instructions. You will now become part of the Mail Order business. In
this business your product is not solid and tangible, it's a service.
You are in the business of developing Mailing Lists. Many large
corporations are happy to pay big bucks for quality lists. However,
the money made from the mailing lists is secondary to the income which
is made from people like you and me asking to be included in that
list. Here are the 4 easy steps to success:

STEP 1: Get 6 separate pieces of paper and write the following on
each piece of paper;PLEASE PUT ME ON YOUR MAILING LIST. Now get 6 US
$1.00 bills and place ONE inside EACH of the 6 pieces of paper so the
bill will not be seen through the envelope (to prevent thievery).
Next, place one paper in each of the 6 envelopes and seal them. You
should now have 6 sealed envelopes, each with a piece of paper stating
the above phrase, your name and address, and a $1.00 bill. What you
are doing is creating a service.

THIS IS ABSOLUTELY LEGAL! You are requesting a legitimate service and
you are paying for it! Like most of us I was a little skeptical and a
little worried about the legal aspects of it all. So I checked it out
with the U.S. Post Office (1-800-275-8777) and they confirmed that it
is indeed legal!

Mail the 6 envelopes to the following addresses: #1) Pamela Marmolejo
1055 Cardiff Way Beaumont, CA 92223 #2) Lea Vigil 5212 Arden Drive
Temple City, CA 91780 #3) Raymond Howe 214 Jones Road, Lot 24 Saratoga
Springs, NY #4) Justin Butler 7201 Spencer Hwy #251 Pasadena, TX 77505
#5) Andrew Wiester 1710 Lakewood Terrance #204 Belton, MO 64012 #6)
Curtis D. Knight 1108 N.3RD McGregor Texas 76657

STEP 2: Now take the #1 name off the list that you see above, move
the other names up (6 becomes 5, 5 becomes 4, etc...) and add YOUR
Name as number 6 on the list. STEP 3: Change anything you need to, but
try to keep this article as close to original as possible. Now, post
your amended article to at least 200 newsgroups. (I think there are
close to 24,000 groups)

All you need is 200, but remember, the more you post, the more money
you make! This is perfectly legal! If you have any doubts, refer to
Title 18 Sec. 1302 & 1341 of the Postal lottery laws. Keep a copy of
these steps for yourself and, whenever you need money, you can use it
again, and again.

PLEASE REMEMBER that this program remains successful because of the
honesty and integrity of the participants and by their carefully
adhering to the directions. Look at it this way. If you are of
integrity, the program will continue and the money that so many others
have received will come your way.
NOTE: You may want to retain every name and address sent to you,
either on a computer or hard copy and keep the notes people send you.

This VERIFIES that you are truly providing a service. (Also, it might
be a good idea to wrap the $1 bill in dark paper to reduce the risk of
mail theft.) So, as each post is downloaded and the directions
carefully followed, six members will be reimbursed for their
participation as a List Developer with one dollar each.
Your name will move up the list geometrically so that when your name
reaches the #1 position you will be receiving thousands of dollars in
CASH!!! What an opportunity for only $6.00 ($1.00 for each of the
first six people listed above) Send it now, add your own name to the
list and you're in business!

---DIRECTIONS ----- FOR HOW TO POST TO NEWSGROUPS------------ Step 1)
You do not need to re-type this entire letter to do your own posting.
Simply put your cursor at the beginning of this letter and drag your
cursor to the bottom of this document, and select 'copy' from the edit
menu. This will copy the entire letter into the computer's memory.
Step 2) Open a blank 'notepad' file and place your cursor at the top
of the blank page. From the 'edit' menu select 'paste'.

This will paste a copy of the letter into notepad so that you can add
your name to the list. Step 3) Save your new notepad file as a .txt
file. If you want to do your postings in different settings, you'll
always have this file to go back to. Step 4) Use Netscape or Internet
explorer and try searching for various newsgroups (on-line forums,
message boards, chat sites, discussions.)

Step 5) Visit these message boards and post this article as a new
message by highlighting the text of this letter and selecting paste
from the edit menu. Fill in the Subject, this will be the header that
everyone sees as they scroll through the list of postings in a
particular group, click the post message button. You're done with your
first one! Congratulations...THAT'S IT! All you have to do is jump to
different newsgroups and post away, after you get the hang of it, it
will take about 30 seconds for each newsgroup!
**REMEMBER, THE MORE NEWSGROUPS YOU POST IN, THE MORE MONEY YOU WILL
MAKE!! BUT YOU HAVE TO POST A MINIMUM OF 200** That's it! You will
begin receiving money from around the world within days! You may
eventually want to rent a P.O.Box due to the large amount of mail you
will receive. If you wish to stay anonymous, you can invent a name to
use, as long as the postman will deliver it.**JUST MAKE SURE ALL THE
ADDRESSES ARE CORRECT.**

Now the WHY part: Out of 200 postings, say I receive only 5 replies (a
very low example). So then I made $5.00 with my name at #6 on the
letter. Now, each of the 5 persons who just sent me $1.00 make the
MINIMUM 200 postings, each with my name at #5 and only 5 persons
respond to each of the original 5, that is another $25.00 for me, now
those 25 each make 200 MINIMUM posts with my name at #4 and only 5
replies each, I will bring in an additional $125.00! Now, those 125
persons turn around and post the MINIMUM 200 with my name at #3 and
only receive 5 replies each, I will make an additional $626.00! OK,
now here is the fun part, each of those 625 persons post a MINIMUM 200
letters with my name at #2 and they each only receive 5 replies, that
just made me $3,125.00!!! Those 3,125 persons will all deliver this
message to 200 newsgroups with my name at #1 and if still 5 persons
per 200 newsgroups react I will receive $15,625,00! With an original
investment of only $6.00! AMAZING!

When your name is no longer on the list, you just take the latest
posting in the newsgroups, and send out another $6.00 to names on the
list, putting your name at number 6 again. And start posting again.
The thing to remember is: do you realize that thousands of people all
over the world are joining the internet and reading these articles
everyday?, JUST LIKE YOU are now!!

So, can you afford $6.00 and see if it really works?? I think so...
People have said, "e;what if the plan is played out and no one
sends you the money? So what! What are the chances of that happening
when there are tons of new honest users and new honest people who are
joining the internet and newsgroups everyday and are willing to give
it a try? Estimates are at 20,000 to 50,000 new users, every day, with
thousands of those joining the actual internet. Remember: play FAIRLY
and HONESTLY and this will really work.

Now here are some websites that explain why this "legal" letter of
yours is about the stupidest piece of criminal crap you could have
fallen for.

First of all, here's a letter at a scholarly site where it was used
as part of someone's thesis paper. Read his comments:
http://www.silcom.com/~barnowl/chain-letter/archive/me2005-08_retired_s$6n6q200.htm

Next we have Karen. Her life was RUINED by starting one such letter:
http://karenliddell.etee2k.net/

A warning from the Better Business Bureau:
http://www.grandrapids.bbb.org/AlertDetlea9a.html?ID=104

Someone's blog, with some rather telling points:
http://www.mr-miata.net/?p=2176

Another blog:
http://www.kshay.com/archives/2007/01/dont_get_me_wrong_im_mailing_i.php

A scathing bad review:
http://www.lunenburg.org/wade/articles/2004/11/10/chain-gang

Discussion of the Australian variant, and just how stupid you have to
be to believe it:
http://www.mmfhoh.org/index.php?title=david_rhodes_scheme_appears_in_melbourne&more=1&c=1&tb=1&pb=1

A recent newspaper column about this letter:
http://www.cleveland.com/business/plaindealer/sheryl_harris/index.ssf?/base/business/1170496709253970.xml&coll=2

An Internet FAQ. Look up Dick Hollman on it:
http://isaacrtree.tripod.com/internet.htm

Another BBB warning, about Internet scams in general:
http://1063thebear.com/files/HOT_TOPICS.pdf

A major consumer protection website's take on the subject:
http://www.stopspam.org/usenet/mmf/mmf_variants.html

The results of someone's private investigation into the letter:
http://demo.capris.com/Makemoremoney/investigate.cfm

And, in this day and age, you may want to consider what perverts and
con men may be harvesting your mailing address from such letters.

A few days ago I decided to buy to close an options position, which
had shown 0 - 0.05 bid/ask for several consecutive days. So, to save
a few bucks by not placing a limit order, I placed a market order at
the open to buy to close. Well, wouldn't you know it, my trade was
executed at $0.10! This even though, there had not been a trade for
0.10 for several days.

I, of course, violated the most elementary rule of all: Never, ever,
place a market order at the open! Someone is likely to rip you off if
at all possible, which is what happened to me.

My broker (Etrade), to its credit, went to bat for me and got the
execution reversed and then done at $0.05.

BTW, I came from Brownco and was at first skeptical when transferred
to Etrade. I have found their service to be very good, and, most
importantly, their execution of my options orders to be very good as
well.

FWIW.

Thanks, Arthur. I know IB has lower commissions, but from what I read
you can never talk to anyone. Other than that, how do you get more
bang for your money with these brokers? Thanks again.

Can you explain this? The extent of my options experience is covered
calls so for me the commission was key, especially since I started out
doing just one contract at a time. A $7 vs a $28 commission is a HUGE
difference when you sell a call at $1.00.

ouch. move to OX, TOS, or IB

a 5cent bid ask spread is $50 if 10 contracts and that is a cheap
spread.

I think you missed what I was saying (or maybe not.) On a $25-30
stock I'd sell a slightly OTM call at around 1.00, netting me $100 -
$8.25. At numbers that small it made a huge difference. Since I was
OTM the strike was high enough to cover commissions if it did go up
and this was in an IRA so I didn't care about cap gains.

I don't think you got my question. I understand bid/ask spread. I
don't understand how that comes into play in picking a broker. Here's
an example: the Apr MSFT 27.50 bid ask on quote.yahoo.com is
$0.69/$0.72. On OX under the virtual trader the spread is .67/.69,
one cent smaller. What does the difference in spreads mean to me an
an investor in the context of your statement?

There IS money to be made in the Forex market. But it is securely
locked up in a vault with one of the thickest doors you will ever
find. The key to opening that vault is to know when to enter a trade
and when to exit.
True, you also have to conquer the six common reasons for failure:
Poor understanding and knowledge
Undercapitalization
Unrealistic expectations
Lack of patience
Lack of discipline
High risk aversion
You can have an excellent understanding of financial markets,
realistic expectations, plenty of trading capital and nerves of steel
and still fail, because you need a tested and proven entry / exit
system. You need to know when to get in, when to get out, and you need
to understand why.
Why do we keep repeating this?
Because it's important. In fact this is the only thing that is
stopping you from cleaning up the market and pushing money into your
account until it is almost bursting at the seams!
Look, if you fail in the foreign exchange markets you only have
yourself to blame.
There are no forces out there controlling prices, like you might think
after watching too many Oliver Stone movies. There's no "source" you
must get closer to in order to become a winning trader.
Although, don't get me wrong. Some people do profit from your losses.
They are:
Your dealer/broker
Your ISP and software vendors
Traders who are better than you.
And another thing. There is no easy route to accumulating a trading
fortune.
We hear people claiming you can become wealthy by trading forex for
only a couple hours a month. They're dreamers! If you are not willing
to invest your time and effort, don't even start. Trading success
doesn't come free and easy. You get out what you put in!
But also, it doesn't matter which direction a currency pair is
trending. The only thing you need to make money is volatility. You're
after are those nice fat intra and multiday swings, and as we all know
there are plenty of these large swings in today's surging forex
market.

Bank lobby made the Government of India to enact the draconian law
called Recovery of Debts Due to Bank sand Financial Institutions and
also Securitisation and Reconstruction of Financial Assets and
Enforcemetn of security Interest Act. hese two acts totally one sided
and the borrowers have no defence as used to have in regular laws such
as Civil Procedure Code etc., The bank considers as above law and
since the Government is backing them with such totally one sided laws,
the borrowers are left with no alternative but to accept whatever
injustice is forced upon them. The court's hands are tied due to thes
laws.

We have, over a period of few years have come up with proper defence
wherein the banks are finding difficult to face these defences.

[Mind's Eye] Re: Shark fact

Erwin,

As much as I like the idea of Jesus the Magic Jew, I'm having a few
problems with his Father -- Jehovah, Yahweh, Elohim, or whatever he
calls himself. I've read the Bible and I'm shocked by his appetite for
torture and murder. The part where he committed genocide by murdering
nearly every living human being and animal on our planet with a Flood
scared me. He also strikes me as emotionally immature, jealous,
racist, and sexist. His obsession with sodomy also makes me think he
is trying to suppress very strong latent homosexual urges.

So, anyway, what I was wondering is why you feel the need to worship
such a being? Personally his deeds make my skin crawl, to the extent
that I think the real hero of the Bible is a character named Satan who
makes a martyr of himself to prove how evil Yahweh is.

Please help.

I'm not saying anything, Lee. I'm relaying what quite eminent
scientists and, of particular note, climatologists, are saying.
Honestly, for as long as I can remember I have been very aware of the
scientific arguments suggesting that global warming is exacerbated by
human activities. How can you avoid it? It's everywhere. However, the
science we've been fed is bunk; it's really in the realm of
non-science.

> It causes global freezing instead?

The most compelling science we have right now tells that it's quite
likely irrelevant; that was the point I was trying to make.

Liebe Grüße Jess und Ela

fun unlimited Change our vision

Change our vision

There was a millionaire who was bothered by severe eye pain.

He consulted so many physicians and was getting his treatment done. He did not stop consulting galaxy of medical experts; he consumed heavy loads of drugs and underwent hundreds of injections.

But the ache persisted with great vigour than before. At last a monk who has supposed to be an expert in treating such patients was called for by the millionaire.

The monk understood his problem and said that for sometime he should concentrate only on green colours and not to fall his eyes on any other colours.

The millionaire got together a group of painters and purchased barrels of green color and directed that every object his eye was likely to fall to be painted in green colour just as the monk had directed.

When the monk came to visit him after few days, the millionaire's servants ran with buckets of green paints and poured on him since he was in red dress, lest their master not see any other colour and his eye ache would come back.

Hearing this monk laughed said "If only you had purchased a pair of green spectacles, worth just a few rupees, you could have saved these walls and trees and pots and all other articles and also could have saved a large share of his fortune.

You cannot paint the world green." Let us change our vision and the world will appear accordingly. It is foolish to shape the world, let us shape ourselves first.

Lets change our vision..!!

[Mind's Eye] Re: Gender Equality

DCJ:

Lest I be guilty of hi-jacking the thread (although I believe
interest has waned in the original subject), I will make only this
final post in **this** thread on social responsibility.

Your well-written paragraph on what you perceive to be your
responsibility is completely commendable by almost any standard {What
does that Kev mean by **almost**???}. I ask only this one question
(consider it rhetorical, if you like).

Does your sense of social responsibility emanate from some
obligation you feel is imposed by the presence of others in your world
{i.e. you owe them} OR by a conscious decision on your part, made of
your own volition, to actively engage in what you believe is the
betterment of society at large {i.e. you want to}??

Still learning from others,
K e v

Dear all,

We are now witnessing a regular daily hammering on the ITC counter, due to fear of ensuing scheme to bring tobacco under VAT regime. Now, can anyone thro' some light on when this bill will be introduced or notified . So that we can watch how much more it will take, it is already close to its 52wkL.

Seniors and Market Wizards, please post comment.

<> Re: BIRLA TAX saver

Note that after this dividend NAV will come back down to Rs. 90
(reduced by Rs. 50). Net net you don't make anything more - just save
tax on more money than you invest.

Meaning if you put in one lakh and you are in the 30% bracket, but you
will get about Rs. 35K back as dividend, so you have invested Rs. 65K
only; and with the NAV reduction your fund value is also down to Rs.
65K. usually you save 30% on investing in ELSS this time you save 50%
in tax (saving 30K on investment of 65K). But one major pain is that
dividends can take upto one month to come and two that this fund has
not performed well over the last four months (when this "scheme" was
declared) and remember your money (65K) is locked in for three years.

I personally don't recommend it because I don't like their unethical
practices - they told distributors to spread word about this dividend
from Dec 2006, even though SEBI says its illegal to pre-announce
dividend more than five days in advance. Their assets increased from
60cr in December to more than 350 cr. today - and they get management
fees of approx 1% of that.

Your call though, but I just wanted to tell you another part of the
story.

Thanks
Deepak

It's just been my experience. The original was pressed on with a machine.
You and I press it on by hand and it doesn't wind up that the disc will
rotate quite as flat as the original once the job is done. Like I said, it;s
not really a big deal. The focus servo will just have to work a little
harder.

Could that have been a 2SD1458 ? I've seen a number of those used in vcr

Cost, cost, cost, cost. :)

What's wrong with a couple pans of hot water, rags at bottom, close the door,
wait an hour while you do something else! People who have to have instant
gratification for a task that's performed once a year if that! :)

Yeppers... Until a few years ago, I had an old GE Weathertron heat pump system.
Terribly inefficient by today's standards, but it got the job done. It had a
vacuum sensor in the outside unit that sensed a drop in air pressure inside the
coils, whereupon it switched into defrost mode. It ran the auxillary heat
strips while in defrost mode to keep from cooling the house while in defrost. A
capillary sensed the coil temperature and switched back into heat pump mode when
the coil temp got high enough. It worked quite well; only went into defrost
when necessary.

Scared me the first time I saw it defrosting... the big column of vapor steaming
up from the unit was awesome. I thought the thing was on fire!!

I had to replace the entire system when the compressor locked up after 25 or so
years of operation. Don't know how the Lennox system I bought as the
replacement determines that it needs to defrost... could be a timer. But it
seems to work well, even in sub-freezing temps and high Florida humidity.

Cheers!!!

These days you are better off to look at one of the Japanese split system

I love the gratification of my food not spoiling. What are you doing for
gratification while the pan is in the fridge? ;^)

I'm guessing it'd take at least 12 hours of hot water to completely defrost
my old fridge. I take out the panels and keep at it to get it all not just
enough to get some air flow. First time was when the defrost timer was only
working on every other cycle and ~ten years later to try and save it. Didn't
want to put any money into a 25 year old so didn't bother doing any
troubleshooting. Do they still sell fridges that aren't "frost free"?.

Actually it was 3 times. Didn't realize the timer had 2 cycles the first
time. IIRC the second cleaning was less than a year later. Soon enough I
knew it had a problem at any rate.

I checked those two fuses on the inverter board, AOK. I don't think the
screen would even light at all if those fuses were bad. I guess I will throw
it to the recycle center.

The charring proves that the diode has always run hot and it is likely
the way it is meant to be. A board is not charred in just a few hours
of operation.

Messing and replacing these diodes is a good way to risk the power
supply, and given that it runs hot I would be very careful with the
type I replace it with, get it wrong and you may blow the supply again.

All the desktop PSUs I've seen have an internal fuse inside. I think it
would be necessary for UL listing. Sometimes though it's a "wire-ended"
type and can only be replaced with the use of a soldering iron.
I do remember once replacing a "wire-ended" one with a standard plug-in
one by fitting a fuse-holder, the PCB was layed out for both. You could
well find wording like "for continued protection against fire replace
only with the specified fuse" and also the fuse rating silk screened
onto the PCB.
Standard ATX PSU's are cheap and readily available and there must be
millions of serviceable ones thrown away in PCs deemed "out of date"
because their beige colour didn't match the décor.
An empty case with a PSU in it costs little more than a PSU alone, and
you could have one in a pretty colour too.
You could probably get a PSU with a universal input voltage range
(100Vac to 240Vac) (or even AC/DC) these days and not have to worry
about making the same mistake again!

Go to a few computer stores and ask if they carry your brand of computer.
Tell them you need a new power supply (with France's input voltage
settings!). If it is for the same make/model, it should have all the same
connectors and be a fairly straightforward install. If all you can find is a
"generic" power supply (you must match the watts rating on your old power
supply to the new one -- sometimes it is stated like "200W"), it should be a
no more than a bit of a small puzzle to make it work for someone with basic
computer/electronic skills (I'm sure you know *someone*).

Good luck,

This is a sort of repair question. On a site I wish to use the volume is
too low even when all available controls are set to max. Earphones are
marginal speakers would need a hearing aid. I realize this a a software
problem (widows and all browsers likely the site) I believe that
solution path is not available . It's not the sound hardware since other
sources are quite loud. ISTM that an audio amplifier is a good solution.
I only need about a doubling of the current volume and since this is
only speech, wide band is not needed. Can someone suggest a simple that
means -cheap device. A kit would be fine. What specs do I need after all
the input level is not low and in truth I dont need a power supply as I
have the computer power or a box full of cubes.
All suggestion are appreciated.

It's not a repair issue.

It's a basic question. So if you are asking about building an amplifier,
or the concept, you ask in sci.electronics.basics If you are asking about a
commercially made amplifier, then you ask in one of the newsgroups in the
rec.audio.* Likely there are even other places to ask, but laziness
has made you ask in a newsgroup that is about the repair of electronic

I have a Sharp LL-T15A4-S LCD monitor.
Here's the symptom:
The screen is 12" wide.
Draw a vertical line 2" from the left side.
To the left of the line, the picture is perfect.
To the right of the line, every other horizontal
line is missing. Alternate horizontal lines
are perfect on the right of the line.

I can't think of a panel defect that could cause this.
Gotta be some addressing problem in the control chip.

I've been looking for information on the
CK1659 MASCOT V chip and the CS8528N chip in between
the MASCOT V and the panel.

I tried setting up a white screen, triggering on the
vertical sync and recording a few horizontal lines.
Instead of a clean signal, I see a LOT of noise and
maybe some places there's no signal, but it doesn't
correlate to the missing lines on the screen.
Shouldn't I expect clean digital signals to the panel?

Any info on how the MASCOT V works or FREE schematics of
this particular monitor? I did find a schematic of another
monitor with the MASCOT V chip and the signal names
suggest something about even and odd. But only part
of the odd horizontal lines have a problem.

I have lots of time and a desire to learn about this,
but I'm not willing to spend money on it.

Ideas?
Thanks, mike

Thank you in advance for your time. I found a neat project to do with
my 14 year old son, but would like to know the science behind it so it
will be educational.

Here is the video link.

It is a fire cracker experiment, and I know he will love it, but I am
clueless as to how this makes my car run.

I assume the can is open on one end like a soup can, not a coke can. I
think the water is there to provide an airtight, frictionless seal for
more effect. Keeping the firercracker dry is tricky. This looks like a
good use for the hundreds of firecrackers I have left over!

What he is simulating is the explosion that happens in one of your cars
engine cylinders. A car engine operates on a series of small controlled
explosions. In your car, the explosive force drives a piston down,
pushing a connecting rod which in turn rotates a crankshaft. A car
engine has 4 to 8 cylinders which fire sequentially and smoothly. The
links below illustrate this with a single cylinder like a lawnmower
engine. These are "internal combustion engines".

My sister did a similar science project years ago with a coffee can
fitted with a spark plug and filled with a very small amount of gasoline
or ether. A plastic lid was placed on top and an ignition coil made a
spark which blew the plastic lid off. Not as dramatic as a fire cracker.

Their is no explosion in a properly operating internal combustion engine.
The fuel merely heats the air. The expansion of the air pushes the piston.
An explosion called detonation or knock can put a hole in the piston. Some
engines require higher octane fuel to keep knock from occurring.

Hi,

I have an older (10Y) Amanc cooktop, Model AKE 35. After about 9
Years, the temperature controls started to get flakey. One would have
to jiggle to keep the burner hot and rotate the control carefully to
keep the connection made. First one, then another. I bought 4 new
control switches and installed them. They lasted about six monthe
before they became flaky too. I bought 4 more from another parts
vendor and they lasted six months. I bought 4 more from Amana (pricy)
and they looked and were marked exactly the same as all the others I
had bought. They too became intermittant after about six months.

All these controls only have a 90 day warranty but still, one should
be able to expect years of service from such controls. Maytag tells me
to go scratch and just buy four more. I think I will not just send off
another $90 without trying to find out what the problem might be.
After each replacement the cook top works perfectly so I am sure there
is no problem with the installation. I suspect a new supplier has been
making these controls for a coule of years and hasen't got it right
yet. Can everyone who replaces these controls be having such short
life? We are a two person family and are not heavy users of this
cooktop.

I hate to throw away a fine cookstove because I cant find a reliable
switch. Thanks for any advice suggestions etc.

I have a CS-117 with a defunct transformer. The factory won't sell me
parts and the value of the unit will be exceeded by the repair costs.
Is there a way to estimate the value of the ac output (it looks like a
center - tapped output with 3 wires) so I can get this back on the
road?

For a preamp, look at hte electrolytics. Also look at the volt reg,
both voltage and type, if it uses one.

I totally agree. Thank you for being so blunt, but so right and truthful about it.

It is all about fast fingers, and getting things accomplished. I am flawed at it also which is why I am able to write this. And, besides, I am doing something about it.

The golden days were when we all used to think things through before making decisions on Rs10K or Rs 1L......But today, a lot of us are making quick decisions to get in AND out without much reasoning other than 'he said it' or 'I heard it'.

In the European movement to 'Slow things down' and no do 19 things each day, we have to learn quickly when it comes to stock market since it can wipe out 'many many hours of hard work that each one of us did to collect the money'. I am putting spreadsheets together that pull quarterly and annual numbers with % gains that will open our eyes to what kind of stocks we should buy and why. More importantly, it is good to know when to sell, and for that I am putting targets in it.

I will share it when I am a bit more ready, and continue to post it on an on-going basis. It is looking good so far and already at V3!

Hi
Gone are the days when earnings through dividend were suffice for the investments made.

Today, even an 800% dividend a.l.a HCLTECH appears low (Rs16/- per share when CMP is say 650/-) as the FV of shares are either Re 1/- or 2/- and the prices reside in strato sphere.

You are my one true friend!

And now, is it too late to say

how you made my life so different in your quiet way?

I can see the joy in simple things,

a sunlit sky, and all the songs we used to sing.

I have walked and I have prayed.

I could forgive and we could start again.

In the end ...

You are my one true friend!

For all the times you closed your eyes,

allowing me to stumble or to be surprised by life,

with all it's twists and turns.

I made mistakes;

you always knew that I would learn.

And when I left, it was you who stayed.

You always knew that I'd come home again.

In the end...

You are my one true friend.

Though love may break...

it never dies.

It changes shape through changing eyes

What I denied, I now can see.

You always were the light inside of me ...

I know, I know, I know, I know ....

it was you ...

I have walked and I have prayed.

I could forgive and we could start again.

In the end...

You are my one true friend!

[Mind's Eye] Re: Gender Equality

I believe that we as a society have to recognize that as society
evolves, sometimes there are portions of society which do not follow
as quickly, for whatever reason. For example, while I do not believe
in the concept of institutionalized racism, I do recognize that a
system of slavery and law enforced racism in this country has created
a socioeconomic effect of repression in primarily black communities,
and believe that we have a social responsibility to focus education
and opportunity in those areas to bring them up to speed. Nothing
reduces crime like legitimate hope. Inversely, hopeless and desparate
people are far more likely to make poor decisions with both crime and
drug abuse. Many people in that demographic (poor blacks) do not
believe there is any real opportunity, and thus real hope. Community
based programs to encourage education and civic pride, along with job
placement and medical care, would help to change the social outlook of
a sub-section of society. This is the social responsibility of which I
speak.

I'm a special brand of libertarian, like I said. I believe there
should be that balance.

Liebe Grüße Jess und Ela

[Mind's Eye] Re: Gender Equality

Because, my befuddled little poster, your point had nothing to do with
the topic. Nothing at all. I was trying to assist you in finding a
place for it, since it was completely disconnected from the
conversation at hand, but clearly, being completely disconnected is
your normal state of being. So, don't worry about a new thread, but
don't forget to take your meds, mmmkay?

[Softwares-Downloads] Re: incredimail and patch!

Ok just a heads up I checked and this is the patch I used to use and yes it does work wonderfully I used it a long time. But IncrediMail just came out with a new rebuild they are trying to get compatible with Vista.

Soon the current version your using isn't going to work anymore you emails will start coming in blanks etc. Its going to start having problems, many have already reported it happening. So I went and got the new rebuild and it totally took me back to the free version after installing it. I attempted to use the patch again and it won't work with the rebuild.

I just wound up buying it lol. I have to have my incredimail and letter creator lol. Good luck I really hope yours holds up for you...

Hugs,
Terri

Naughty Joke for Wednesday..!

The instructor was demonstrating the wonders of static
electricity to his class at MIT. While holding a plastic
rod in one hand and a wool cloth in the other, he told the
class, "You can see that I get a large charge from rubbing
my rod..." That was pretty much the end of learning for
that day.
